Processing Charge Cards via a Secure Gateway
When you make a purchase with your charge card, it is very important that your number is handled securely by those who are processing the payment. With today's faceless e-commerce economy, special concerns need to be addressed to ensure that your charge card information is not accessible to those with unknown or unproven security track records. While we know that our employees are trustworthy and have excellent security records, this fact is not easily discerned when you visit a Web site. Therefore, we provide you with the most secure charge card processing available by using the Authorize.Net Gateway to connect our site's Web server directly to the financial institutions which authorize and process our charge card transactions.
How Secure Charge Card Processing via a Gateway Works
In the process of completing your order in our secure Online Store for Vacuum Cleaner Products, you will enter your charge card information on a secure Web page. Your Web browser will encrypt this information using the TLS Protocol and send it over the Internet to our site's secure Web Server. This starts a sophisticated process wherein the charge card transaction is either approved or declined by your charge card issuer as shown below.
- Our web site's secure server immediately passes the transaction to the
Authorize.Net Gateway via the Internet using extremely secure
128-bit Encryption. This is the world's strongest... according
to RSA Labs, it would take a trillion-trillion years to crack using
today's technology.
- The transaction is transmitted by Authorize.Net to our Acquiring
Bank's processor via a secure proprietary connection. (The
transaction always travels via secure proprietary connections within
the authorization network after it passes through the Authorize.Net
Gateway.)
- The Acquiring Bank's processor passes the transaction to the Credit
Card Interchange system.
- The Credit Card Interchange system queries the appropriate Card Issuer
database.
- The Card Issuer approves or declines the transaction, places a hold
on funds if approved, and passes result/authorization codes back
through the Charge Card Interchange system. The result of a
comparison between the billing address and the card account's
address is passed back as well to help us determine our level of
risk involved in processing your order. This same system verifies
whether the card code you entered is correct, providing a pretty good
indication that you have the actual credit card in your possession.
- The Credit Card Interchange system relays the transaction results
to the Acquiring Bank's processor.
- The Acquiring Bank's processor relays the transaction results to
Authorize.Net servers.
- The Authorize.Net server stores the results and transmits them, along
with a Transaction ID, back to the our Web Site's server.
- A Web page is created, encrypted and passed to your Web browser so you
can view the authorization results. If approved, this contains a
complete invoice which you can print for your records.
This whole process takes only 3 to 4 seconds so you quickly know that your charge card payment was approved for the amount of the sale. If declines, you have the option of entering another card for approval. When we process your order for shipping, its related Transaction ID is passed to the Authorize.Net Gateway, starting the process which bills your charge card account and passes the funds to our bank.
Your charge card number is not stored on our site's Web server, eliminating the risk of unauthorized access to it there. As an extra safeguard, Authorize.Net even prevents us from accessing your complete charge card number on their system. However, should the need arise, we are able to credit your charge card account using the identification number associated with your original transaction. This virtually removes any risk of charge card fraud, providing outstanding protect for your charge card information when purchasing from us online.
You also have the assurance that your charge card account will not be charged more than what you approved when completing your purchase. There is no way that we can charge more than the amount authorized by Authorize.net when you entered your card information. This is an additional protection against fraud.
